FAQ
- Q: How can I donate?
- A: Learn more about ways to donate on our Get Involved page.
- Q: Can I come and see the house being built?
- A: Yes, you are more than welcome to stop by. The spectator area will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, 8/16/2010 – Thursday, 8/19/2010. Please remember there may be long periods of standing, so wear closed-toed, comfortable shoes. For sunny days, make sure you put on sunscreen! No blankets, lawn chairs or coolers are allowed; however water and snacks are allowed.
- Q: Will there be free parking?
- A: Yes, limited parking is available. Please follow the signs and drive carefully. Please review the map and get familiar with the local streets. During peak times, there will be a continuous shuttle service to take you back and forth from the parking area to the construction site.
- Q: Will there be handicapped accessible parking?
- A: If you need handicap accessibility, we ask that you drive up to the check-in site and drop off the individual and then park your car in the parking area.
- Q: Can I volunteer? How?
- A: If you are interested in volunteering, please visit our Volunteer page for information. We'd love to have your help for this build!
- Q: Are children allowed?
- A: If you're a volunteer, we are asking that you not bring children under 18 to the construction site for safety reasons. If you are a spectator, please take into consideration that this is standing room only – there are no seats – and the weather may be very hot. Please use your best judgment.
- Q: Can I get autographs?
- A: Ty, the rest of the design team and all the volunteers are going to be working really hard to make sure the recipients receive a completed home. There may be opportunities for autographs, but unfortunately we cannot guarantee that.
- Q: Can I bring a sign?
- A: You can certainly bring a sign to encourage all the volunteers and builders! They deserve all the credit for lending us their time and expertise to help build this home in one week! Your signs would be very much appreciated. Please make sure to keep them positive, short and visible from a distance.
- Q: Is smoking allowed?
- A: There will be no smoking allowed. This is a live construction site, and we need to take every precaution to make it a safe environment for everyone involved.
- Q: Will cameras and video cameras be allowed?
- A: You are more than welcome to bring them and use them while you are in the spectator area. We will also be posting new photos daily in our Blog during the build, so be sure to check back regularly for updates.
- Q: Can I bring food?
- A: We certainly don't mind you doing that. If it is hot, please remember to drink lots of water. Please also remember that we are guests at this location and we need to be respectful of that. Please be sure to throw any garbage away in the proper receptacles.
- Q: Will spectators be allowed if the weather is bad?
- A: Construction will go on even if it storms! Please use your good judgment when deciding to come down and visit. Umbrellas are allowed, but unfortunately, there will not be a covered area for spectators.
- Q: Will there be bathrooms?
- A: Yes, there will be nearby portables available to you.
- Q: Will there be paramedics for emergencies?
- A: Yes. In case of an emergency, please look for the paramedics or a staff volunteer (in a polo shirt) and ask for assistance. If it is an urgent matter, please do not wait for assistance, call 911.
- Q: What time will the home be revealed to the recipients? What time should I be there to see it?
- A: We are not currently releasing the reveal date. Check back soon for an update on the date and time. We need a BIG CROWD, so please show your support by coming out.
